Bora Bora, French Polynesia by Britney V.

I picked Bora Bora to write about because it’s one of my dream places to visit with my family and friends. One other reason I picked Bora Bora is because it’s one of the beautiful islands in the Pacific Ocean. It’s located in French Polynesia, and four million years ago the island was formed by a volcanic eruption, and I never knew that so that's one of the things I learned about Bora Bora. Five interesting  facts about Bora Bora are:  it’s  divided into five smaller islands when I read that I was shocked because I thought it was just one island. Something else that got me shocked was that they got the name Bora Bora from the Natives when they found the island they used to say “Bora Bora Bora”. There are no snakes or even insects so you don’t have to worry about getting bitten or even getting hurt so if you sleep on the beach you don’t have to worry about getting hurt. Also when you go to Bora Bora they give the females flowers to put it on your left side ear if you're taken and if you're single you put it on your right ear because the males there like to flirt and they are good looking I guess. The person who found Bora Bora in 1769 was Captain James. Bora Bora is half way between Australia and the U.S, and when I read that I was thinking that is far from Boston.

One of the quotes I read was " Undoubtedly the most celebrated island in the South Pacific, Bora Bora is French Polynesia's leading lady. Her beauty is unrivaled and her fame, unwavering. Bora Bora is one of the few places on earth that everyone hopes to witness in their lifetime—and once you see it, you are forever enamored" (Tahiti.com), so when people travel there, they will be amazed by its beauty. But the most important thing people should know about Bora Bora is that it is the most safe place to travel with your family because you guys don’t need to think about getting bitten by animals or insects because most islands do have harmful insects and it’s isn’t good for little kids. I loved to write Bora Bora because I learned so much about my dream place and if I go one day I know some things about the island. I found all those information at the website in Travelteam.com. and trevalcroc.com, and Tahiti.com https://www.tahiti.com/island/bora-bora

Great Pyramids at Giza, Egypt, by Richemie C.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is located in Giza Necropolis, one of the most famous Pyramids of Egypt. The Pyramids were built because the Egyptians believed in the after life, and that the kings were what connected the people with the Gods. There are about 80 ancient Egypt Pyramids but only 3 most famous and well kept ones.  I chose The Great Sphinx of Giza because I think Egypt has a lot of histories and myth stories about it. And it's always great to start from the most famous places.

It’s said that Khafre built his own tomb next to his father, and since the sphinx looked like him it was then credited to him. The Sphinx was built for the Egyptian Pharaoh Khafre during his reign (2520-2494 BC). Egyptian pharoahs were buried in tombs in the pyramids, along with their jewelry, body organs, and their pets! The pyramids took any years to build, and are still standing today. They are one of the most amazing places in the world to visit, and one of the wonders of the world.

Gillette Stadium, Home of N.E. Patriots, by Jordan N.

Have you ever been to an event where there were so many people that you can feel the impact of everyone’s roar? Well if you haven’t, then I am going to give you a virtual one. Many of you may know Gillette Stadium because of the Patriots and its success over the past decades, but what you will know soon is how the stadium is now what it is today.
Gillette Stadium is known as a football/soccer stadium that is located in Foxborough, Massachusetts and is in the northeastern United States. Gillette Stadium is approximately 20 miles southwest of our capital. In 1970, the stadium was under construction for the first time until March 24, 2000 was when the approved plans for the stadium was finally beginning to occur. The stadium’s seat capacity held up to a maximum of 65,878 seats, 5876 club seats, and 89 luxury suites. Just imagine about 70,000 fans around you screaming to the top of their lungs! There is a small mall right near the stadium as many call it Patriots Place. Gillette stadium is occupied mostly by the New England Patriots of the National Football League and the New England Revolution of the Major Soccer League. This 68,000 seater stadium is worth $325 million dollars! Robert Kraft privately funded the cost of building it, so that means that all of their facilities are privately owned and operated.
“CMGI Field” was originally the name before the naming rights were bought by Gillette Company. Gillette Stadium is now owned by Kraft Sports Group. “Robert Kraft is an American billionaire businessman with a diversified company that holds assets in paper and packaging, sports and entertainment, real estate development, and private equity portfolio”. (source: )https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Kraft He is also the owner of both the New England Patriots and New England Revolution.
Just imagine that you are on the higher section of Gillette Stadium and looking down at the field is a red white and blue flying Elvis at the 50 yard line. From that view, not only can you see the logo but you can also see the lighthouse and bridge where it leads to one of the main entrances. The lighthouse actually works and can shine 2 miles high. During 2010, the stadium got some sweet upgrades like state of the art daktronic video screen display. If you do get lucky enough your face can pop up onto the daktronic screen by a camera that is attached around the stadium.

This virtual field trip was fun and exciting. Hopefully some of you can go to a game one day!

Amazon Rainforest, by Amanda B.

Rainforest Facts and Importance | Amazon Rainforest Animals ...What Could Happen if the Rainforest Disappeared | Reader's Digest
It is the largest rainforest in the world. It covers a total area of 2.5 million square miles of rainforest. The Amazon rainforest represents 54% of the total amount of rainforests left on Earth. The rainforest holds a total of 2/3 of the insect's species. It also holds many different species of animals including many different tribes of native people. It contains many different resources such as medicine, wood, food and mines.
There are many things that are threatening the Amazon rainforest nowadays. Many different companies wish to exploit it such as multinational companies like MacDonald's, which would chop down the trees and graze their cattle there. Miners would need to dig holes that would take away the trees and logging people would need to cut down the trees. They would all need roads, which would result in more trees being cut down. Their machinery would cause pollution, which would get into the atmosphere and pollution, which would get into the water. I suggest that we have an area for the animals and plants that people could not cut down. When people cut a tree down they should plant two more trees in its place. When they do they should decrease the area they burn down and leave the area to recover for much longer.
I highly recommend taking a virtual tour of this amazing place. Here’s a link to get you started:

Amazon Rainforest, by Claudio B.

Can you imagine what 33 ft of rain falling would look like? Well you don't have to imagine, because 400 inches of rainfall every year in the Amazon rainforest every year. Maybe that’s why they call it the “Rain-forest.” But this is not just the only interesting fact about the Amazon Rainforest. The animals and trees are also very interesting. There are 1600 birds, 230 snakes, 600 mammals, 40 turtles, 70, 000 insects. And this is where dinosaurs used to live too!

Surprisingly, even though there is a lot of rain in this forest, it is also very hot- from 85 to 95 degrees. Additionally, the forest can grow up to 296 inches a year. Also the forest has 4 layers:

  1. Emergent layer,
  2. Canopy,
  3. Understory,
  4. Forest floor.
Layers of the rainforest - All about the Amazon Rainforest

These 4 layers of the Amazon Rainforest are named differently because different things happen in each layer. For example, the Harpy Eagle lives high up in the Emergent layer, where they can more suitably protect their young.

Guyana's Giant Harpy Eagle – The Largest Eagle In The World ...

The Amazon Rainforest runs through the equator and it lives in South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa. The Amazon forest also has the second largest river in the world and it is 4,000 miles long! There is also a forest called Amazonia because the amazon river runs through it.

Ellis Island New York, by Maeve A.

Today we are traveling to Ellis island. Ellis island is located in the upper bay of New York,  just off the New Jersey coast, near the Statue of Liberty. More than 12 million immigrants made their first stop in America at the Ellis Island station between 1892 and 1954. Some of them can even  trace their family  history back to Ellis island, using searches. . Many immigrants travelled hundreds of miles from their home countries by foot, horseback, or train to get to the coast to board the steamship which would take them to America from Europe and other places. .The ship was very crowded with people from different countries. Some of them spoke different languages and belonged to different religions. The trip was difficult but they finally made it.

Here is a typical immigrant experience at Ellis Island in the late 19th/early 20th century:

Everyone was tired when they arrived in New York harbor.  The first thing they saw was the Statue of Liberty (which was a gift to the United States, from France). . They were happy when they got to see the Statue of Liberty. They had to go through a process that required 10 steps to allow entry into America. The first thing was they were split up into groups based on wealth and class. The second thing they did was health officers would check the health of first and second passengers to make sure they didn’t have any diseases. If they didn’t they were able to leave the ship quickly. But the third class had to wait hours or days  to be checked which was unfair in my opinion. The third thing was to go to the baggage room to collect their things. It was very overwhelming because there were so many people trying to get their things. The fourth thing was going up to the registry room, it was the biggest room immigrants had ever seen. They would wait in long lines for a medical and legal inspection. The fifth thing was if they were sick they would have to have a medical exam. They developed a new thing called six second physical. The sixth thing was the legal inspection they had to do which was to talk to someone in a uniform. They would ask the immigrants 29 questions. The seventh thing was detainees if you didn’t pass the health and legal inspection you would be detained until they had a hearing to review their case to decide if they could stay or have to be sent back. The eighth thing was the stairs of separation. All the immigrants went somewhere different. There were three aisels. So immigrants who were detained went down the central aisle and people who were traveling west or south went walked down the right side of the staircase.those going to new city or north walked down the left side. The last thing was the kissing post. The kissing post is where family and friends wait for their loved ones, after their long journey they were finally in America.!

Polar Bears and People: Cataloging Conflict | Hakai Magazine
Have you ever been to the San Diego Zoo? While on a recent virtual tour of this zoo, I learned about a specific type of animal called a polar bear. This animal lives in the tundra in the arctic circle and is in threatened condition. They can grow up to 10 feet long, eating meat. But what I found really interesting is that:
  • Polar bears roll in snow to get clean
  • Polar bears like to swim
  • Polar bears live where its cold
  • Polar bears do not live in the fridge-ha ha
When you have time, check out the San Diego Zoo, and while you’re there, make sure to check out the polar bear.

The Great Wall of China, by Davon T.

The Great Wall of China is a long site starting in Beijing, China’.  It was made 2000 years ago, but additions were added over hundreds of years.  It was made completely by men and it’s about 3000 miles long! It is known for being one of the longest places on Earth and can be seen from space! That’s one of  the reasons why over 10 million people visit it every year.  The reason I think this is one of the coolest and best places  to visit is because of how massive it is! It has been said that people died making that wall and that dead bodies have been found under the wall, buried. It is believed that the people building the wall probably died of age or exhaustion making that wall!

The Chinese built the Great wall because they wanted the wall to protect them from invaders and enemies from the north, especially the Mongols, who are a tribal group from Mongolia that raided China in the past. Like all walls it was made for military defense.

Nowadays, people form all over the world go to China to walk along the Great Wall, and to learn about it’s important history, as well as to take in the beautiful views.

Yankee Stadium, by Jader C.

Yankee stadium is a stadium located in Bronx, New York. Yankee Stadium is a staple in sports history and will, without a doubt, never be forgotten as long as sports are a part of mankind’s tradition.  Sports have been part of mankind since the beginning, with  little competitions to see who of the community is the most preeminent. Nowadays sports are more traditional form of entertainment  with a few sports being the most recognizable. One of those sports is baseball.

One of the most known locations in baseball  culture is  Yankee Stadium. Yankee stadium is most prominent because when it was first built marked the beginning of the Yankees "perfect streak" which has such  distinguished people such as Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, and the well-known Babe Ruth or the Great Bambino as he was known  throughout the baseball community.

While the original Yankee Stadium ( built in the 1930s) is no longer in use, the significance of the stadium will never be omitted from the memory of true sports fans. The new Yankee stadium opened in 2009 and seems to be a new promising future for the Yankees and the era of baseball.

Boston Children's Museum, by Valeria C.

The place I chose to research was the Boston Children's Museum due to the fact that, growing up, it was a place I went too, often. I chose the place to find out more about the reason it was built and how long it's been around. The most interesting thing about being there is that  kids learn through play and we create new knowledge. It is famous for its fun activities and hands on games. It is the second oldest children's museum. There are 23 exhibits in the building. They plan events a few times a month. There are 11 programs in the building as of right now. The history behind it is that it was founded on august 1,1913. It was built 107 years ago. The CEO and president of the largest children's museum is Carole Charnow. The CEO as of right now had been the CEO since 2010. A quote from the Boston Children's Museum “Generations of children have enjoyed learning about science, culture, the arts, literacy, health, the environment and more in our museum. We know your children will love it too. And because each of our exhibits and programs are designed for children and the adults in their lives…you might have just as much fun as your kids do.” This just shows what the museum is all about and its purpose. The most important thing to know about this place is that it's not just games, it's a way for children to learn through play. Well we grow up we learn through play and expand our knowledge.

Six Flags New England, by George A.

Do you to enjoy rides and delicious food? Then you should go to Six Flags! History of Six Flags? Six Flags was opened in 1870 and was an amusement park called Riverside Park. It became Six Flags in 1998. Six flags is in Agawam, MA. You could take a bus or you could drive. How far is Agawam from Boston? It will take an hour and 45 to get there, but if there is traffic it will take a lot more time to get there.

Six flags has lots of rides. How many rides does it have? It has 61 rides. The rides I like are the superman, joker, the riddler, Goliath and some other rides. They are rollercoasters. I like those rides because it goes fast especially when you go down. It makes your stomach feel weird, but not in a bad way.

For the food, I'd say it’s not the best but it’s still good. What kind of food? They have burgers, hot dogs, pizza, salads, Chinese food, ice cream, Mexican food, and Italian food. and don’t have a favorite. There is a waterpark called Hurricane Harbor. There are water rides, sprinklers, swimming pools, and kid rides. You should bring your swimsuit!

"Sharks" at the San Diego Zoo, by Brayden G.

Sharks, By Brayden G.

Most people are afraid of sharks, but there is one that is afraid of us! Have you ever been to the San Diego Zoo? While on a recent virtual tour of this zoo, I learned about a specific type of fish called a Leopard Shark. This animal lives in North America in stable condition. They can grow up to 5 to 7 feet long, eating other fish.

But what I found really interesting is that they have dark spots on their body, very flexible with no bones, and people love to eat them. When you have time, check out the San Diego Zoo, and while you’re there, make sure to check out the Leopard Shark.

Great Wall of China, By Gevonn W.

The Great Wall of China. Let me tell you this thing is long… the Great Wall of China was built by a lot of people they have started to build this mighty wall since 770 BC and these people never gave up because I guess this was something really important thing to build way back when. It was built minly to keep out "barbarians", or enemies of China from the north. And it’s cool how patient and determined that they were to have built this amazing and then leave this here for us generations to learn and see what mankind is able to do. The Great Wall of China was built in the Huairou District in China over many years. I chose this place because the Great Wall of China is something that I think everyone should know about it’s such an iconic place to know about.

San Diego Zoo, by Britney

The San Diego Zoo is a famous zoo located in San Diego, California. I picked the San Diego Zoo because I love to see animals and in San Diego they have so many different animals that we really don’t see in Boston.  They have a day that you can help the staff out to feed the animals or even touch them but the good thing is they are not harmful,  so they won’t hurt anyone. When I read about the San Diego zoo, I learned so much! For example, the San Diego zoo is so famous because they have a lot of wild animals and even some  endangered species.. Additionally, I found five modern facts about the place: there are  over 3,700 animals and 650 more with the species in the zoo, there’s about 3.2 millions people visiting every year, a tour it takes about two hours long but that's only the tour of the inside, the place is about three quarters of a mile and over ground is 185 feet, and also there are many pandas in the zoo. While reading I found three historical facts about the zoo too: they founded the zoo 100 years ago, before it was a zoo it was a place they took care of animals , it was re-built in 1969. (source: anopensuitcase.com).  The one thing that surprised me was they founded the zoo 100 years ago, and even how big was the place I didn’t imagine now big it was the zoo because in Boston it isn’t that big so I was really shocked. The quote that really got my attention when I was reading about the zoo train was “Built in 1969,this mode of transportation is three-quarters of a mile long”. Something I want to say that everyone should know about the San Diego zoo is that the place is a safe place to be at because you guys know the animals aren't going to hurt you or your family even for those who have little kids.

Greece and Greek Gods, by Delilah S.

What do you know about Greece? There is actually so much to learn about Greece because it has a lot of history. To begin, Greece is where democracy started. Greece features thousands of islands  including Santorini and Mykonos. The highest mountain in  Greece is Mount Olympus it is measured it has over 50 peaks with the highest of about 2917 metres ( 9570 feet)

There are also many myths that came from Greece. The myths tell us about how the weather started,  and also they explain about how the universe and Earth began.  Gaia and Ouranos had children named Cyclopes and Hetekaneae. My favorite myth is how Medusa turned into a Gorgon by the goddess Athena.  The gods and goddess are the large part of the greek culture, like Zeus the supreme god of thunder and lightning and mankind.    Zeus-his sacred animal is the eagle. And Athena the goddess of wisdom and arts, was born out of Zeus’s head wearing full battle armor. Her symbols are the olive branch and the owl.  And of course the big three-Poseidon, Athena and Hades. Poseidon was the  god of the sea. His weapon was a trident powerful enough to shake the earth causing storms and earthquakes. His symbols are the trident, and his sacred animals are the dolphin and the horse.  And Hades the god of the underworld  he lived with Persephone in the underworld. The symbol of Hades is a helmet which helped him to stay invisible.  And so we have the Greek gods and goddess because if we do not have them the whole world will be less interesting, without Athena there will not be any Athens.

San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park - California Through My LensVisit San Diego Zoo | San Diego Activities | San Diego Things to Do
I chose to do my project on the San Diego Zoo because I like looking at animals and seeing how they walk compared to other animals and how they look because every animal is different. my mom likes taking me and my brothers to the franklin park zoo so that we can enjoy looking at something new that we don't really see everyday and i wanted to do this project on a Zoo so that i can get on the site and see my favorite animal which is a penguin.

The San Diego Zoo has more than 3,700 animals and there are more than 650 species inside the zoo and something that I believe that is important is that it's the oldest zoo in the world and it has the largest population. One thing that surprised me was about the lockdown that they had to do because one friday night two striped hyenas escaped from their sealed compound. On a site i got this quote “Since San Diego started housing giant pandas, it has had six successful cub births, which is no small feat due to their notoriously difficult mating patterns.” The most important thing I believe that people should know about the San Diego Zoo is that  its institute put more than thirty endangered species back into the wild.
