The New York Yankees are a baseball team that plays for Major League Baseball. They are based in
New York City in the Bronx. The Yankees started way back in 1903 in Baltimore, Maryland with players
such as outfielder Willie Keeler and pitcher Jack Chesbro. They weren't always called the Yankees though,
they were nicknamed the Highlanders because of their British military unit, Gordon Highlanders. Their
first game of their first season was in 1903 losing to the Washington Senators 3-1. But eight days after they
got their first win at Hilltop Park beating the Senators 6-2. The Yankees had won 19 of 29 games putting
them in 4th place in the MLB.

This was their first of the Yankees' next 27 World Series championships. As of 2019 the New York Yankees
have won 103 and the AL (American League) East championship. They’ve hit 306 home runs beating their
own record.
In Glenn Stout's Yankees history book, the author wrote:
“More often than not, they have shown just how the game of baseball is supposed to be played. Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Mattingly, Jeter, and dozens of other players impossible to forget have worn their uniform. Yankee Stadium has been their stage. The very definition of a dynasty, they have created the collective memories that make friends of strangers, given their city a face, and displayed its heart and soul.”
