Did you know that Poseidon was the god of the sea and  Zeus’ brother? There's a lot of things people don't know so let me tell you some. To begin with you should know the temple is in Greece with a lot of ancient history. The ancient Greeks built temples to praise the gods and gave offerings at the temple to gods for good fortune. Poseidon was the god of the Sea which meant the sea was his domain. He was a popular god among people that fished or traveled by ocean or sea.

The temple built in Poseidon's honor  is 656 feet or 200 meters above sea level, and built on the edge of a cliff. The Temple of Poseidon was built in 444-440 Bc on top of the ruins where an older structure used to be. The temple is protected by the government of Greece, because it is an ancient religion and is a part of their heritage and ancient culture that they want to protect.

There are many other temples of Poseidon and other Greek gods around the Mediterranean Sea because the ancient Greek Empire spread all around southern Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa.
